Exercising Outdoors On The Hiking Trail

While away from the workplace people have different ways of spending their free time. While some find the idea of a picnic relaxing other people may prefer a day at the race track. Hiking is a great way you can get exercise and fresh air, while seeing nature in its entire splendor.

Because the areas you can hike vary in difficulty and environment you may need to wear different equipment as appropriate. A more difficult trek may require sturdy footwear and protective clothing, while a simple short romp on a trail can be done in jogging shoes, a pair of shorts and a T-shirt. Many hikers will tell you that regardless of the type of trail you choose it is important to have the proper footwear.

If using a Trail Hiking boot make sure it offers good stability to your ankle and fits well. It should be lose enough to allow you to move your toes and should not cause any pinching. Waterproofing is important and should be done once in awhile to protect your feet. Many new types of boots have a lining that is designed to keep moisture out but allow perspiration to escape, which will keep your feet safer.

While waterproofing the leather watch which waterproofing method you use. Wax based waterproofing will prevent the boots natural breathing, so recommendations are to use a silicon based treatment. Cleaning and waterproofing your footwear should be done as needed.

As you can see, hiking footwear has evolved into more than just the standard, stiff brown boot!

Clothing can vary according to the terrain as well. Shorts and a light shirt fit well on a groomed trail, but are not good for tougher hikes. Long pants and long sleeve shirts may be best for off trail hiking to give your skin protection from branches and other objects. It is best to know what type of environment you plan to hike in and dress appropriately.

There are items you can bring to make your hike more comfortable and safe. The environment and weather will determine how much drinking water you should bring; also keep in mind how long you plan on being on the trail. If you only have a set amount of time to hike, a ladies or men’s sport watch is a must to let you know when you reach your limit. If the hike is going to be for 1 hour you can check the watch often and turn around after 30 minutes have passed. Also for the sake of safety remember a cell phone, you may not need it but it is best to have it anyways.
